Samsung to join the OLED market

Samsung announced almost a year ago that they would not get caught up in all the OLED buzz and that they would not manufacture any OLED panels, this news had many companies such as the likes of Sony, LG, Panasonic and other big brand names breathing easy as Samsung are considered market leaders in supplying TV panels, PC monitors, and various other display panels.

Much to the surprise of many people Samsung recently had a huge turn around stating that they will attack the OLED market head on and take the fight up to all other manufactures of OLED products.

While OLED markets continue to grow and marketing efforts are on the rise, Samsung now believes that OLED is still a good year away from becoming mainstream and have said that they will learn from other companies mistakes and wait until the time is right to release quality OLED products into the consumer market. There is certainly going to be demand for OLED digital display devices not only for TV’s, PC monitors but also in the mobile devices market, while Samsung are keeping tight lipped about when mass production will start you can rest assured that Samsung as one of the leading technology suppliers in the world are up to something behind the scenes. We will update you as soon as more news arises from the Samsung camp, but for the time being you will have to sit tight.

OLED hands on preview

This is just a brief video from youtube to show you just how thin OLED displays are, not the greatest video and we have only chosen this clip randomly, this is not one of our OLED videos (We will be posting some up in the coming weeks).

It is hard to see the BLU RAY content from this youtube video, but when standing in front of the screen in person it is simply breath taking to see how far display technology has come in recent time, I highly recommend that you see a OLED demonstration from your local technology store. Again not the greatest video, but at the same time it does show off what is possible with OLED TV’s. The first thing that you will notice is the pure clarity of the images and also the outstanding contrast ratio.

To get a better understanding of the quality of OLED TV’s or OLED display capabilities you really need to see one up close and personal before your very eyes to appreciate how much better OLED’s are compared with today’s TV’s and current screens on the market.

  • 1,000,000 : 1 contrast ratio

OLED technology produces spontaneous control of light emitted from the organic material layer. This enables real time natural images of fast-moving action, unlike LCD’s and Plasma TV’s OLED does not need to advertise refresh rates as many older TV companies do with existing lines, as the image you see is instant.
